3-Day Azzaden Valley Trek from Marrakech

Three Days in the Hidden Heart of the High Atlas Mountains

The Azzaden Valley is one of the most beautiful and least-visited trekking routes in the High Atlas Mountains. Unlike the busy Toubkal approach from Imlil, the Azzaden takes you away from the crowds and into a quieter, wilder landscape — deep valleys, high ridges, isolated Berber villages and mountain passes with views stretching from the Sahara to the Atlantic on clear days. This 3-day guided trek is the ideal introduction to multi-day hiking in Morocco.

What’s Included

  • Transport from Marrakech to trailhead and back
  • Certified local Berber mountain guide for all 3 days
  • 2 nights accommodation in mountain guesthouses (gites)
  • All meals: breakfast, lunch and dinner on trail days
  • Mule support for luggage on request
  • National Park and trekking permit fees

3-Day Trek Itinerary

Day 1 — Marrakech to Imlil to Azzaden Valley (6–7 hours hiking)
Depart Marrakech early morning. After the drive to Imlil (1,740m), the trail climbs through the Aït Mizane valley and crosses over the Tizi n’Mzik pass (2,489m) into the Azzaden Valley below. You descend through stunning high-altitude scenery to your first night’s guesthouse in the village of Tazarhart (2,070m). Dinner and overnight in a traditional mountain gite.

Day 2 — Deep into the Azzaden Valley (5–6 hours hiking)
After a mountain breakfast, follow the Azzaden river deeper into the valley. Pass through remote Berber villages where life has changed little in generations — terraced gardens, watermills, goat herds and the warm hospitality of families who rarely see tourists. Lunch is prepared fresh in a village home. Overnight at a gite in the upper valley.

Day 3 — Return via High Pass to Imlil and Marrakech (6 hours hiking)
The final day rewards you with the best views of the trek. Climb to a high mountain pass (above 3,000m on some routes) with panoramic views of the High Atlas ridgeline. Descend back into the Imlil valley and return by vehicle to Marrakech, arriving early evening.
