2-Day Toubkal Trek Itinerary
Day 1 — Marrakech to Toubkal Refuge (5–6 hours hiking)
Depart Marrakech early morning (7:00 AM). Drive 1h30 to Imlil village (1,740m) — the starting point of the Toubkal trek. Begin hiking through the Aït Mizane valley, passing through the village of Aremd and the Berber shrine of Sidi Chamarouch (2,310m), a popular local pilgrimage site with a small waterfall. Continue the steady climb to the Toubkal Refuge (3,207m), arriving mid-afternoon. Dinner and overnight at the refuge.
Day 2 — Summit Day and Return to Marrakech (7–9 hours hiking)
Rise early (5:00–6:00 AM) for breakfast and begin the summit push in the quiet of the morning. The climb from the refuge to the summit takes approximately 3 hours, following a well-marked rocky path. At the top (4,167m), you are rewarded with breathtaking 360-degree views — the Atlas ridges, the plains of Marrakech to the north, and on clear days, the Sahara Desert to the south and the Atlantic coast to the west. Descend to the refuge for lunch, then continue all the way back down to Imlil. Return drive to Marrakech, arriving approximately 7:00–8:00 PM.

Do I Need Experience to Climb Mount Toubkal?
No mountaineering experience is required in summer (May–October). You need good physical fitness and the determination to walk for 7–9 hours over two days at altitude. The path is rocky but never technical. Your certified guide will set the pace and make sure you reach the summit safely. In winter (November–April), the mountain is covered in snow and requires crampons, an ice axe and a guide with winter qualifications — Atlas Nomad Guides can arrange all equipment.
Tips for a Successful Toubkal Climb
- Wear proper hiking boots — not trainers. The rocky terrain above the refuge is tough on ankles.
- Bring warm layers. Even in summer, temperatures at 4,000m can drop to near freezing.
- Start hydrating the day before. The altitude affects everyone differently.
- Take it slow. Your guide knows the right pace for altitude. Trust them.
